FAQs on upcoming IPOs

First time investors may have a number of questions with regard to
understanding how IPOs work and common terminology. We have compiled a
list of Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs) about IPOs that may help you make
an informed decision before investing:

1. Do companies list on stock exchanges without an IPO?

Yes. Companies can get listed on an exchange without an IPO as long as they
meet the SEBI norms and guidelines.

2. What is a price band for an IPO?

The price band refers to the range within which investors can bid. Typically, the spread between the floor and the cap should not be more than 20%.

3. Does applying for an IPO guarantee allotment of shares?

No, applying for an IPO does not guarantee share allotment. Post the bidding process, allotment will depend on the number of bids that the IPO received in different categories and at the price at which the investor applied for shares. After the IPO closes, the registrar prepares a ‘Basis of Allotment’ document. This document will provide all information regarding the bids at different prices and allotment patterns.

4. Will I get a notification when my bid is successfully placed?

Yes, once the bid details are uploaded on the stock exchange platform, you will receive an SMS regarding the submission of your application. Usually, on the last day of bidding, the SMS will be sent out on the next working day.

5. Once the shares are allotted, when can I begin to trade in the new shares?

Once the allotted shares are credited to your Demat account, you need to wait for the stock to be listed on the bourses. You can begin trading from the first day of the listing.
